Gaelic song literature is one of the world's great cultural treasurers and direct access to it is a fantastic benefit for learning the language. There simply is no comparison between singing or listening to a song with just a general idea of what it means and knowing every word.

Instrument players who learn Gaelic can suddenly understand the rhythmic patterns in dance tunes more intuitively, since they come almost directly from the patterns of speech. Tune players are also often surprised to find that some of their favorite reels, jigs, marches and strathspeys actually have Gaelic words and are technically puirt-a-beul.
